Throughout 13 episodes, the viewer is invited to journey through Portugal, from the mainland to the islands, to discover living laboratories of sustainability recognized by UNESCO. With 12 Biosphere Reserves, Portugal possesses (and preserves) a natural an d cultural heritage — both material and intangible — that is unique, serving as a fulfilled example of the close relationship between humans and nature.
In the first episode, we give voice to those who are most familiar with the UNESCO program “Man and Biosphe re,” whose pioneering strategy toward planetary sustainability forms the basis for the establishment of over 700 biosphere reserves globally classified today. The remaining episodes are dedicated to each of the Portuguese Biosphere Reserves: Paúl do Boquil obo, Corvo Island, Graciosa Island, Flores Island, Gerês – Xurés, Berlengas, Santana – Madeira, the Iberian Plateau, São Jorge Fajãs, Tejo/Tajo Internacional, Castro Verde, and Porto Santo Island.
